Mind Like an Open Songbook

Based on the philosophies of durational performance practices, this particular process of creation was initiated in September 2019, each hour, day and month adding a layer. Mind like an open songbook is Anna Tiia Sorjonen's first solo piece. The process of creating is very much an open one.

Can a performance ever be ready? Is the process of creating never-ending? It feels that too often we are rushed to have a deadline, after which there should not be loose ends, everything should be perfectly rehearsed and polished. That kind of process does not feel like a sustainable one for us. We believe that the creative process of creating a performance is a durational performance. It is a continued embodiment of the story, of the topics, of the change that is being made. The beauty of a process lies in its ugliness, in the unfinished rawness. During the process, some things change, some things stay, some things are forgotten about and some just can't be forgotten about.

The series is about cycling, cycles, transformation, and perseverance. It is about change and time.
